* The ceramist Émile GALLE (1846-1904), son of Charles, who had made his fortune in porcelain, arrived in Raon l'Etape at the age of 36 to work at the earthenware factory, and turned to the workshops of Monsieur Adelphe MÜLLER. He rented him two rooms to set up on the site of the BAUER Confection building. In 1866, he became official supplier to the Tuileries Palace. Numerous prestigious pieces and services come out of the Raon kilns, decorated and signed "E. Gallé Raon". In Raon, the Gallés owned a kiln and a ceramics decorating workshop until 1898. Although Émile Gallé's research began with earthenware, it was in glassmaking that he let his genius shine: glass marquetry, cameo glass, multi-layered blown glass. In 1892, a vase was presented to the wife of President CARNOT, and in 1893, on the occasion of the Russian squadron's visit to Nancy, the Tsar was presented with a Gallé table. The last creations from the MÜLLER earthenware factory date from 1898, shortly before production ceased for good.
