Important Pair of Candelabras in gilded and chased bronzes with "à la Grecque" decoration and crystal ornamentation in the Louis XVI style with Five lights including four Branches and a central torch signed Eugéne Hazart (1838-1891) on a base, Paris Epoque XIX éme circa 1870.

Rare Eugene Hazart model for sale. Superb original condition.

Dimensions: 59 cm Branch width 28 cm Base diameter: 18 cm

    Architectural elements:

The candelabra features a very wide, round base with a flat, molded, stepped outline, Signature on one of the candelabras. It is adorned with a rais-de-cœur motif, the type used on the Temple of Minerva Poliades in Athenes.

Details of the heart-shaped grapes: Heart-shaped grapes are a classic ornamental motif, composed of heart-shaped leaves alternating with spearheads. The whole is topped by a ring of large pearls.

The base terminates in a bell-shaped upper part, embellished with beautiful laurel sprays, attachment buttons and gadroons.

Central shaft in the form of a Greek column, sheathed and framed, with its base decorated with acanthus leaves and a round ring, and ending with four Aries heads at the top, distributed on each side of the sheath.

The four lights are composed of basins, binsets and bobeches richly decorated with applied laurel leaves and gadroons.

The top of the fifth fire is in the shape of a flaming torch, decorated with fluting, gadroons, stylized acanthus leaves and hollow, flat and round moldings. The wide flame is removable and forms the candle holder, consisting of a wide spigot with a removable spool.

The perfect balance between the strength of bronze and the delicacy of crystal creates a visual symphony, a subtlety that captivates the eye.

Condition report: Very fine original gilding with matte and brilliant. Very high quality chasing, composed of some thirty different bronze parts per candelabra, exceptional workmanship. Traces of use and age (antique object). Crystal work complete and in very good condition, tiny micro-scratches (old crystals). Disassembled and cleaned by our conservation workshops.

    Provenance: Private Parisian collection

    Bibliography:

Eugène Hazart was a highly reputed Parisian bronzemaker, a member of the Réunion des fabricants de bronze from 1839 and a member of the Commission sur la propriété des modèles. Known since 1843 for copying antique styles, executing bronzes "in the Gothic and Renaissance taste on furniture, porcelain, groups, statuettes, etc.", he is still renowned for his reproductions of 18th-century works. He moved to 122, rue Vieille-du-Temple (from 1843), then to 12, rue St-Gilles, Marais (1856) and finally to 16, rue St-Gilles, Marais (1864).

He was a much-appreciated artist, appearing in 1884 in the suppliers' book of Pannier Frères, head of the famous firm "A l'Escalier de Cristal", a porcelain, crystal and furniture merchant-publisher based in the Palais-Royal and made famous throughout the 19th century by its brilliant performances at prestigious exhibitions.

These candelabra not only light up a room, they transform it. They bring an aura of timeless elegance, a quiet assurance that is felt in every detail.

To own these candelabras is to own a piece of history, a symbol of taste and distinction. It's an investment in the exceptional, in pure emotion.
