Rare pair of silvered bronze candelabra candlesticks, old Louis XVI style work from the early 19th century (Empire Restoration period).
Beautiful fluted model, rows of pearls, on a base of torches, 2 sconces fit together, the central cassolette motif turning around to place up to 3 lights. They are made up of 17 independent parts, which is a sign of quality.
The candlestick part is identical to the gilded bronze candlesticks exhibited at the Château de Fontainebleau and listed in Jean Pierre Samoyault's book Clocks and furnishing bronzes entered under the first Empire, number 150 page 172. There were two pairs of this type in the salon of the Grand Marshal of the Palace at the Palace of Fontainebleau and in the salon of the chaplains' apartment. This reference work says that "this is undoubtedly the pair delivered by [Claude] Galle in September 1807 for the great chaplain".
Our candelabras are a variation of the gilded bronze model (ours are silver) with sconces to transform the simple torches into candelabras.
Production from the beginning of the 19th century, it is probably a work by Gérard Jean Galle based on a model by his father Claude Galle.
Beautiful model, ideal for a dining room by matching the silverware (on a table or console, server).
Very good condition, complete. Silvering well preserved without wear (probably re-silvered 100 years ago).
