Very rare pair of chiseled bronze candelabra candlesticks, in their beautiful original gilding and patina.
On rare occasions, these torches can be found for sale, but always without their girandoles. These are sometimes announced, wrongly, from the Restoration period.
The presence of the original candelabra somewhat clarifies the dating, which is indeed from the Empire-Consulate period.
The base encircled with friezes of water leaves and laurel accommodates two large open water leaves, from which the fluted shaft emerges.
The binet perfectly chiselled with acanthus leaves, the cup decorated with water leaves and florets.
The girandole with three arms of light, chiselled with anthemions (palmettes) with on each the mask of Hermes in the round.
We find the chiseled anthemions on the binets, characteristic of the work of Claude Galle.
The top of the girandole, welcoming the fourth light, again takes the form of a large sheet of water.
Very beautiful carvings and gilding. Perfect state of conservation.
Attributed to Claude Galle (1759-1815).
Empire-Consulate period.
