Pair of large candlesticks or torches in matte and shiny mercury-gilded bronze, Empire period - early 19th century around 1806-1807, by Claude Galle. Rich decoration with palmettes on the base, the was in a fluted quiver resting on claw feet, the top decorated with busts of Egyptian women emerging from draperies, bobeches in the shape of a vase with palmettes. They are made up of 12 independent parts (a sign of the quality of the model), entirely in matte and shiny mercury-gilded bronze (bronze only, no brass parts).
This model is listed in the book "hour, fire, light, bronzes of the National Furniture", specifying that a pair of identical torches were placed in the apartments of the Emperor in 1809 then those of the Empress in 1813 .

Claude Galle (1759-1815), bronze maker and foundry-engraver, received master's degree in 1786 and was active on rue Vivienne, supplied the Crown Furniture Guard under Louis XVI, but also and especially under the Empire. In particular, it makes deliveries to the châteaux of Trianons, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, Compiègne and the Palais des Tuileries. It is interesting to compare the productions of Claude Galle and to understand that his creations were combinations of individual elements assembled with variations to constitute different models. We have sold and are offering other models by Claude Galle which have elements and finishes very similar to our pair and which make them the signature of this great bronze maker. - an identical pair with smooth shafts in patinated and gilded bronze, large pair of ceremonial candlesticks with the same binets - pair of candlesticks with the same type of base and engraved decoration - or even this model from the Château de Fontainebleau - and this lamp base
Rare collector's model, our torches are clearly a piece of imperial quality, since the Emperor owned the same. . It is also a large format and very high quality model, worthy of imperial furniture. Beautiful collector's items.

Very good condition: no dents, accidents or deformation. Well preserved original mercury gilding.
