This model is listed in the book "hour, fire, light, bronzes of the National Furniture", specifying that a pair of identical torches were placed in the apartments of the Emperor in 1809 then those of the Empress in 1813 .
Claude Galle (1759-1815), bronze maker and foundry-engraver, received master's degree in 1786 and was active on rue Vivienne, supplied the Crown Furniture Guard under Louis XVI, but also and especially under the Empire. In particular, it makes deliveries to the châteaux of Trianons, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, Compiègne and the Palais des Tuileries. It is interesting to compare the productions of Claude Galle and to understand that his creations were combinations of individual elements assembled with variations to constitute different models. We have sold and are offering other models by Claude Galle which have elements and finishes very similar to our pair and which make them the signature of this great bronze maker. - an identical pair with smooth shafts in patinated and gilded bronze, large pair of ceremonial candlesticks with the same binets - pair of candlesticks with the same type of base and engraved decoration - or even this model from the Château de Fontainebleau - and this lamp base
