Fabulous pair of Baccarat crystal candlesticks with four arms of light, created by Jacques Adnet.
Jacques Adnet is a French architect and designer who began his career with one of the first modern art studios, La Maîtrise, directed by Maurice Dufrêne. In 1928, Jacques Adnet became head of the Compagnie des Arts Français, working with artists such as Picasso, Dunand and Perriand. Thanks to his works featuring simple, uncluttered motifs and new materials such as glass and metal, he is considered one of the leading exponents of French modernism and Art Deco.
Baccarat was born of an association of craftsmen in eastern France, who succeeded in creating high-quality glass in 1764, then in developing crystal of unrivalled purity in 1816. From then on, Baccarat earned its reputation as a luxury designer, supplying furniture to the Maharajas of India, creating candelabras for Nicholas II of Russia, and numerous pieces for Napoleon III's apartments in the Louvre. The greatest artists have worked with Baccarat, including Salvador Dali, Philippe Starck and Jacques Adnet.
This pair of candlesticks, created in 1935, is the fruit of a collaboration between Adnet and Baccarat. It features a cylindrical base, a barrel decorated with a crystal ball and four arms of light. Its clean, simplified lines are a testament to its modernity. Jacques Adnet's creations are recognizable by the combination of gilded bronze and Baccarat crystal ball, also found in his table lamps.
This pair is signed under each base with the "Baccarat" stamp and numbered 7957.
