Sarre, Vaudrevange
Basket and its display
Fine glazed and painted earthenware
Dimensions: D. 26 display; D. 20 basket; H. 9 basket (cm.)
Around 1790 - 1800
Elegant basket and its display in fine earthenware finely imitating basketry with rich openwork decoration. Centered barbel motifs, and foliage friezes around the edges.
Fine earthenware at the end of the 18th century in Eastern France
A first factory was created in 1785 near Sarreguemines. In 1791, it moved to Vaudrevange (Wallerfangen), and remained a significant center of production, including after its passage into Germanic territory in 1815. Productions similar to those of Creil should be noted. This factory merged with Boch in 1836.
This piece can be compared to the hard porcelain models produced by the Niderviller factory under the aegis of the Count of Custine, before 1793. The geographical proximity of the two production centers undoubtedly explains the similarities of the models.
