Important pitcher and its basin in polychrome enameled earthenware, "Rouen" model, with decoration of lambrequins and plant scrolls, marks on the reverse in blue and hollow marks "BH". Work from the end of the 19th century.
In 1835, this factory was purchased by the Irishman David Johnston. He then produced pieces inspired by the highly competitive fine English Staffordshire earthenware. His company will employ up to 700 workers. In 1844, Jules Vieillard, an employee of David Johnston, bought the factory in financial difficulty. It was renamed Jules Vieillard & Cie in 1845. Production was industrialized and focused solely on fine earthenware. This quality earthenware will be rewarded during the Universal Exhibitions.
