Satsuma earthenware tripod perfume burner with polychrome and gold enamel decoration. The body is decorated on one side with richly dressed figures representing masters instructing two young children, and on the other with scenes of daily life. The scenes are set against a rich floral and geometric background. Dragon-shaped handles and lid. Signed under the base. Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912). This incense burner is a fine example of the Japonism that conquered Europe between 1860 and the early 20th century.
