This is a wonderful pair of Delft plates which say so much about 18th c Dutch taste, commerce and social aspiration. The pattern is a popular chinese design, with associated brown rim dressing, which was copied by various european craftspeople - for an example, please see the other pair I am offering. In this case, the mark is that of Drie Klokken (three bells), a company established by Barbara Cornelisdochter Rotteveel in Delft in 1641 on the site of an old brewery.
As you might expect of such old pieces, the plates are not in perfect condition. Aside from the usual kiln faults, wear and fritting around the edges, one plate is still in reasonable condition, whereas the other has chipped enamel in the bowl and some hairlines, but please note that the deeper looking crack, near the mark, is a firing fault. Rest assured that I have assigned a minimal value to this plate in the pricing of this pair.
Both plates have pierced foot rims for hanging, but these have not been tested and I would recommend using an alternative method for display.
The dimensions are as follows : both have a diamter of ca 19 cms; the plate in best condition weighs 309 g, the other 280 g.
