Artistic pottery: TISSIER
In 1898, Joseph-Ferdinand Tissier and his wife Élise née Asch moved to Nabeul and set up a factory that quickly attracted the attention of the Bey of Tunis - who awarded Tissier the title of "Master Potter of the Beylic Faience Factory" - and of the General Residence of France, as well as local potters who sent their children there for apprenticeships. A turning point was reached with the launch of "artistic pottery", which innovated by using motifs from a variety of origins, helping to revitalize the sector. The Tissiers won a medal at an exhibition in Nabeul in 1904, followed by another in Liège in 1905. Also in 1905, Resident General Stephen Pichon acquired over sixty ceramics from Nabeul to donate to the Musée Adrien Dubouché in Limoges.
