    GERBINO Jean (1876/1966)
Born March 27, 1876 in San Stefano di Camastra.
In 1902, he worked as a turner at Massier. In 1905, he set up his own pottery at Maison Carrée in Algeria, then in 1912 worked for Pichon (in Uzés). In 1919, he returned to Vallauris, where he spent the next 15 years researching his own idea for "mosaic earth". To earn a living and finance his research, he hired out his services in various workshops, the best known of which was "Massier".
In 1930, he established himself as a craftsman, using mixed clay to create his mosaic earthenware works.
From 1943 to 1953, Jean GERBINO worked with his first son-in-law, Ange Joseph CAPRA (who died in 1953). Shortly afterwards, he trained his second son-in-law Édouard ALZIARY, who assisted him until his death. Edouard Alziary ran the workshop until December 31, 1974. On January 1, 1975, Yvan Koenig took over, keeping the secret of production alive. Yvan Koenig became owner of the factory on January 1, 1980, and closed it on December 15, 2003.
