Set of two vases with mirror decorations, by Edouard Gilles (1868-1895), painter on porcelain of formation, who created in Paris at the end of the XIXth his own workshop of earthenware of art.
On a brown background with beautiful shades, two imaginary creatures in relief confront each other, or move away from each other, depending on the way you choose to arrange these vases. The association of lions' bodies with eagles' wings and beaks evokes griffins, dominating among the gilded decorations distributed in a regular way on the whole of the two vases.
The latter are also embellished with grooved collars and rest on a base in wrought bronze.
Another touch of originality: a pretty green water inside these very decorative objects, monogrammed on the bottom.
Perfectly adapted to a contemporary atmosphere, these vases also remind us of ancient cultures, with these two protective monsters, combining the earthly strength of the fawn and the celestial energy of the bird of prey.
