This attractive, warmly-coloured Kyoto satsuma vase was made during the Meiji period. The vase is decorated with a bird and a flowering tree (possibly hawthorn or prunus) with small areas of moriage and gilding. It is made of earthenware, slightly crackled as you would expect and it stands on three feet with elephant-head handles to two sides.
Overall, the vase is in good condition, although you will notice wear on the handles and attached rings that has caused loss to the gilding and there are a couple of patches where the glaze/colour is thinner. Viewed from some angles, the neck leans slightly to one side, but I see that as part of the charm of this lovely piece.
There is a 3 charatermark on the base, I don't know what it says but it could refer to it having been part of a set.
The vase is approximately 21 cms high and weighs about 365 g.
