    For information :
Roland J. Green, English artist lived from 1896 to 1972. He produced numerous studies of birds in watercolor and oil. He placed many of his bird paintings in the Broads, capturing some of the rugged beauty of this region in his distinctive style. Roland Green was born in Rainham, Kent, the son of a taxidermist, who trained him in butchering, stuffing and setting up birds, instilling in him a thorough knowledge of anatomy and plumage. He showed an early aptitude for drawing and painting birds. Educated at Rochester and Regent Street Polytechnic, he was a skilled painter of birds and mammals, holding annual exhibitions of his paintings and prints. The subjects of his engravings were the snipe, the Canada goose, the mallard duck and the kingfisher. He also lectured on bird watching and bird drawing, with an emphasis on birds in flight. He spent a lot of time in the reedbeds, creating the mistaken impression of being unsociable, but his interviews with students from various schools dispelled that idea. Green was commissioned by Lord Desborough of Hickling Estate in Norfolk to paint a frieze at Whiteslea Lodge, showing the birds of Hickling Broad.
