The hollyhock originated in China, via Syria, where it was brought to us during the Crusades.
With its seven- to nine-foot stems, the large number of white, pink and red flowers it adorns on its tall stem and its numerous blooms from July to September, this flower has come to symbolize fertility.
The Chinese represent Nature crowned with its flowers.
