A moving memory of the Aviso escort Commandant Rivière, this very beautiful and large, beautifully framed sepia photographic print represents this proud vessel laid down at the Lorient Arsenal in April 1957 and launched on October 11, 1958. The Commander Rivière is the first Aviso-escort in a series which included nine units. Later transformed into an exploration vessel for anti-submarine warfare from 1984 in Lorient, the technical naval construction service needed a boat to replace the Agenais, a former fast escort which for years had been used to experimenting with underwater detection devices, and who was out of breath. It ends up as a breakwater off the coast of Saint-Mandrier.... How sad!
