Born in Paris to Russian parents who emigrated during the 1917 revolution, Alexis Stroukoff entered photography school in 1960, a time when everything was possible for a young photographer. He evolves from meeting to meeting. The first is that of the photographer Lipnizky who owns a photographic agency specialized in theater and opera. He made his first steps as an assistant, then as a studio photographer, taking pictures of Yves Montand, Juliette Greco or Eugène Ionesco... Then he leaves this world to enter the court of the stars, at Filipachi. Working with Jean Marie-Perrier at the magazine Salut les Copains, he now follows Claude François in Africa, Adamo at the Universal Exhibition, France Gall, Sheila, Nicoletta, Nino Ferrer, but also Dick Rivers and Antoine... In 1971, a new challenge presents itself when he returns to Paris from a stay in England. For Vogue, he signed photos with Guy Bourdin and Henry Clarke, then continued to make fashion and beauty photographs, as well as reports that took him from Haiti to Israel. He then crossed paths with the masters Beaton, Horst, Newton, Pen, and began to edit his own photos, before becoming artistic director of Vogue in 1986. He left the magazine in 1991 to design the magazine Aura for Art Curial.
