Kees Van Dongen was a Dutch-born artist who studied art at the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts from 1892, then moved to France in 1897. In 1904, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants alongside Matisse and Vlaminck, then at the Salon d'Automne in 1905.He exhibited at the Bernheim gallery in 1911 and briefly joined the German Expressionist group die Brücke.he then became the painter of the Paris social scene.in June 1946,his reputation was tarnished when,in the company of other artists,he went on a study trip to Germany organized by Brecker,in return for the release of French artists who had been prisoners of war.he painted until his death in 1968.
