Suite of 12 plates numbered 1 to 12 depicting polychrome bouquets of various flowers from the late 19th century.
They were painted by Elisa Champin between 1851 and 1862 for the album Vilmorin-Andrieux, growers based on Quai de la Mégisserie in Paris.
These plates were later lithographed under the direction of Elisa Champin.
These are bouquets of flowers in fresh, shimmering colors, with discreet numbers under each variety.
In fact, these plates were designed to show the varieties of flowers sold in seed sachets, month by month.
A beautiful color plate was much more representative of a flower variety than an inscription on a sachet, and therefore much more "sellable".
At the bottom of each plate, you'll find the common name of each flower, as well as its Latin name, which was practical because at the time, only the Latin name was printed on seed packets.
Each number is almost invisible to the uninitiated, and this discretion was designed not to detract from the beauty of the bouquet.
