Biography:
Franz Priking (born Pricking) was a German painter and lithographer born on August 7, 1929 in Mülheim (North Rhine-Westphalia) and died on June 10, 1979.
Franz Priking was a painter of landscapes, animals, still lifes and mixed media.
He is said to have been a student at the Bauhaus in Weimar, although he does not appear on the list of former students published in the catalog of the Bauhaus exhibition at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris in 1969.
He has appeared in annual Salons. He also took part in group shows, notably Meubles-Tableaux at the Centre Beaubourg in Paris in 1977, where he presented a Knoll sideboard, the front and sides of which he decorated. He has shown his work in numerous solo exhibitions.
His painting is in no way influenced by the teachings of the Bauhaus, Kandinsky or Klee. Painting all subjects, animals, landscapes and still lifes, his post-Cézanne style is reminiscent of certain painters of the Paris School between the wars, notably Friesz, Vlaminck and Derain, in their post-Fauvist output.
