Drawn and lithographed by Achille Devéria.
Published by Goupil & Cie. Printed by Lemercier, Paris. Dry stamp Goupil.
    Enhanced with watercolours.

    48,8 x 31,5 cm 19.2 x 12.4 inch

The work is in a good condition, it has never been restaured. The paper is 19th century, and a few small signs of age show that the velum paper is 19th c. The watercoloured rehearsals are handmade, and of the time.
The blind mark of Goupil (Goupil ended its activity in 1917) cannot be imitated and prooves among other elements the authenticity of the print.

Exceptional quality of execution. Very decorative and sensitive.

Achille Devéria is a French illustrator and painter engraver of the romantic period, born in Paris on February 6, 1800, died in this city on December 23, 1857.  He was a pupli of Girodet. His paintings were mainly done using watercolors. The French poet and critic Charles Baudelaire referred to his portrait series as showing "all the morals and aesthetics of the age"
See : Marcus Osterwalder, Dictionnaire des illustrateurs 1800-1914, éditions Hubschmid & Bouret, 1983.
Works by Devéria are in the Louvre Museum, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Norton Simon Museum, and the Université de Liège collections.
