Lithograph in good condition, recent frame. Plate size: 34cmX23.5cm. Richard Ranft (1862-1931) was a Swiss painter, draftsman and engraver. He first studied painting and drawing in Geneva, where he learned the art of landscape, then in Paris in the studios of Courbet and Auguste Dumont, who taught him the art of engraving. He produced numerous lithographic plates and continued landscape painting. He took part in the Salon des Cent with a personal exhibition in 1895. He also collaborated with the magazine L'Estampe Moderne and the newspaper L'Estampe Nouvelle. Between 1892 and 1913, he illustrated several books and novels. Raft died in 1931, at the time when a retrospective of his works was going to be organized at the Salon d'Automne.
L'Estampe Moderne, published between May 1897 and April 99, is a monthly publication consisting of four unpublished chromo-lithographs specially made by each artist for the magazine.
