This lithograph bears Utrillo's signature, countersigned on the right. On the left is the inscription "Lithographie originale épreuve sur papier Montmartre le Moulin de la Galette".
Maurice Utrillo (1883-1955) was a tormented personality, and painting became an outlet for his mental problems. The artist drew his inspiration from places where people lived, cafés, ginguettes and restaurants. In the 1910s, after an early period clearly influenced by Impressionism, Maurice Utrillo quickly established himself as the benchmark artist of the École de Paris, preferring a refined depiction of the streets of Paris and especially Montmartre, where he spent most of his life, to the surrealist and abstractionist effervescence of the time.
We would like to point out a trace on a corner in the lower right-hand corner, a defect in the upper left-hand corner and slight rubbing, all of which are visible in the photos. These defects are not prohibitive. You'll also notice a not-very-happy piece of tape on the back to hold it in place.
We are selling it unframed.
