Beautiful Gouache by this artist, who was the only British member of the avant-garde group COBRA.
    Recent oak frame.

He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1936, and had his first solo exhibition in London at the Wertheim Galery in 1938.
He moved to Paris in 1946 after the birth of his daughter Frances. and exhibited at the Salon des Sur-Independents in 1948, where he caught the attention of Danish artist Asjer Jorn, who led him to join the avant-garde group of artists Cobra. He is, with William Gear, one of the only members of British origin. He participated in the first edition of the group's journal, and was involved in the two major exhibitions: the congress of bregnerod in August 1949, and the exhibition at the Stedelijk museum amsterdam in November of the same year. A French art critic then described him as "the most French of English sculptors and one of the most European among artists".
. After the CoBrA period, his pictorial approach became more abstract, but he remained in contact with Pierre Alechinsky after the movement dissolved. He exhibited several times at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles.
