    Albert Decaris (1901- 1988)
Winner of the Prix de Rome in 1929 and a master of severe graphics at the service of a rich imagination, he has, since 1926, produced numerous book illustrations, in particular the first three notebooks of Chateaubriand’s Mémoires d’outre-tombe, Réflexions ou sentences and Maximes morales by La Rochefoucauld, as well as Ronsard, Shakespeare, Barrés, Vigny, Aeschylus and Corneille. He has also, since 1933, regularly engraved and we owe him around 500 stamps. He was a member of the Institute since 1943 and exhibited in 1945 at the Salon d’Automne.
