Pair of large Restoration period engravings in their original Empire frames, palmette model gilded with gold leaf. They represent board games in use at the beginning of the 19th century: Colin Maillard which is still very well known today (the main player is blindfolded and must recognize the other players by groping), and that of the hot hand where the main player this time must recognize by groping which of the other players is spanking him. The engravings are very amusing, full of picturesque characters, with many small details in the decor, which capture the daily life of an inn or farm at the beginning of the 19th century.
Beautiful pair of engravings in perfect condition: they were cleaned in an acid bath to whiten them and refurbish them (amateur finish, expensive). They are presented in a beautiful gilded wood frame with gold leaf in excellent condition, the engraving enhanced and illuminated by a blue Marie-Louise, a finish that we have used on many other engravings and which we will continue to use through the following, so as to give the possibility of creating a set.
