    The Storm or Daphnis and Chloe
    Etching and engraving, dated 1882 engraved by Amédée Varin and Eugène Varin after a work by Pierre Auguste Cot.
    Printed and published by Goupil & Cie. The original painting is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
    This etching forms a pair with another piece entitled "  The Spring or Daphnis and Chloe " that is also currently on sale in our gallery. 
    Exceptional quality of execution highly contrasted. Good condition. This work has been restaured by a professional & accurate restaurer.

    About the engravers Varin :
    Member of a family with three childred, Amédée Varin became an engraver along with each one of his siblings. In 1847, he started to engrave paintings from the famous Gallery Goupil along with his three brothers and soon developped his own authentic technique that distinguished him, referred to as the "style Varin". He received several medals for his works. The french museum "Musée d'Orbigny Bernon" in the city La Rochelle currently holds over 20 of his engravings.
