Large engraving of King Louis XVIII in coronation regalia, with coat adorned with fleur-de-lys and lined with ermine, and seated on his throne with fleur-de-lys. The engraving is based on the 1814 portrait by François Gérard, who became the King's first painter for the occasion (!), and is now on display at the Hotel de Beauharnais. The engraving or print is presented in a handsome, wide, gold-leafed wooden channel frame, bearing on the back the label of the print dealer Addé, 15 quai Voltaire, Paris. The frame dates from the 1840s, making our print an interesting historical object that was produced "under the cloak" for Legitimist royalists during the reign of Louis Philippe.
This is a highly decorative piece, with beautiful gilding in excellent condition, which has been cleaned by our gilder.
NB: we will propose an engraving with an identical frame presenting King Charles X (slightly smaller).
