Guillaume Azoulay was born in Casablanca, Morocco in 1949. Today, he has gained international recognition as a talented artist. Her unique self-taught style expresses movement, strength and grace.
Since the age of thirteen, Azoulay's thirst for adventure has taken him to many parts of the world, earning his way by painting and performing as an actor.
Azoulay met his wife Charmaine Seal, a famous Welsh ballerina, in Israel, and in 1976 they arrived in the United States. In this short time, Azoulay managed to become one of the best known and most popular American engravers.
In 1983, Azoulay was chosen to create the official poster for the Kentucky Derby Festival. He was challenged by the idea of creating an image that combined his love of horses with the excitement of the biggest horse races in the world. His latest series of prints captures the spirit and vitality of racing's most important competitions: Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont.
Among the many accomplishments of the artist is the acceptance of seven of his works into the permanent collection of the Louvre Museum (Cabinet des Dessins). Azoulay is the youngest artist to be accepted into the permanent archives of the Louvre Museum.
His work is part of the private collections of President Ronald Reagan, His Majesty King Hassan II of Morocco, President François Mitterrand of France and the late President Sadat of Egypt. The works of Severall d'Azoulay are part of the prestigious Nelson Rockefeller collection.
