"La Paye des moissonneurs" is an emblematic work by Léon Lhermitte, painted in 1882 and currently on display at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. This painting, with its imposing dimensions (215 cm x 272 cm), is an outstanding example of the naturalist movement in 19th-century painting. Lhermitte, born in the Aisne region of France and deeply attached to rural life, depicted an everyday scene of peasants receiving their daily pay at the end of the working day in a farmyard.
