Léon Viardot (1805-1899)

Charcoal portrait of a young man, signed and dated 1855. In a contemporary palmette frame, probably the original frame.

Winner of a 2nd class medal at the Salon of 1832, Léon Viardot was the brother of Louis Viardot, an important figure in French intellectual, artistic and political life in the mid-18th century. Our portrait is similar to the portrait of Louis Viardot executed by his brother Léon, now kept at the Museum of Romantic Life in Paris (see last photo)

Frame dimensions 33.3x27.9cm

The drawing is in good condition, free of folds or stains. Please note, small gaps and shocks to the frame, and the absence of a palmette.
