    Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo was born in 1922 in Liège (Belgium) of Dutch parents. After leaving school, he studied drawing at the Amsterdam Academy of Fine Arts from 1940 to 1943. Together with Karel Appel, Asger Jorn, Dotremont and Constant, Corneille helped found the Cobra group in Paris in 1948.
