Louis Malteste (1862-1928)
Born under the name of Jules Malteste in Chartres and died in Paris, he began his career with courtroom sketches made for the newspaper "l'Illustration".
A versatile artist with multiple talents, he exhibited as a painter at the Salon des artistes français in 1889. In 1897 he participated in the Salon des cent and then from that date in the salon of the Société nationale des beaux-arts. He collaborated as a cartoonist with art and literature magazines: L'Estampe moderne, l'Ermitage or la Plume in 1897-1898 then worked regularly for the humorous press: la Caricature, l'Assiette au beurre, Le Chat Noir, Frou-frou. He also produced many erotic posters under the name of Jacques d'Icy.
