Ernest and Charles Schneider grew up in Nancy. After their apprenticeship at the Daum glassworks, they founded their own company, Verreries Schneider, in Épinay-sur-Seine in 1913. The company's success continued after the end of hostilities in 1918. By 1925, it had five hundred employees and was selling its creations all over the world. The glass market, however, was seriously affected by the Great Depression of 1929, driving the Schneider brothers' company into bankruptcy in 1938. he Charder brand: Verre français was Europe's largest art glassmaker in the 1920s-1930s. Most of its creations, strongly influenced by the Nancy School, are by Charles Schneider.
