Rare large Baccarat crystal Venetian ribbed vase with chrysanthemum motifs, Art Nouveau period circa 1900.
This is probably a work for the Escalier de Cristal; a very fine model, belonging to the top of the crystal range, with a cut motif, treated with acid to give a matte effect and accentuate the contrast and relief effect, and finally engraved. Remarkably fine, technically advanced workmanship for an impeccable result: a fine collector's item.
A piece from the 1900s, our vase does not bear the crystal maker's signature, but it has retained its paper label under the base.
The shape of our vase is listed in the 1916 catalogs, and it is also known from the Japanese work Old Baccarat tableware, where it appears with another motif, made using the same techniques.
Our chrysanthemum motif was quite common at Baccarat in 1900, during which years Japanese-style decor was very much in vogue (the chrysanthemum being traditionally known as <meta charset="UTF-8" />the imperial emblem of Japan, and more generally today as a national emblem).
Our vase is in excellent condition, the crystal is limpid, no accidents.
