Mahogany and Cuban flamed mahogany veneer commissioned cabinet. As a cabinet, it opens with two doors revealing two shelves, a large drawer at the bottom, and a narrower drawer at the top. It rests on spindle legs with bronze sabots, the uprights fluted with gilt bronze asparagus. The top is a white marble topped with an inverted cavetto. Beautiful chiseled and gilded bronze trim, with a cloverleaf lock. Parisian work from the late Louis XVI period, 1790s-1800s.
A beautiful piece of furniture, interesting for its originality; it was a special commission from its first owner to the cabinetmaker, probably the counterpart of a secretaire, but slightly larger.
Good overall condition; the varnish has been cleaned and repolished by our cabinetmaker. It is in "good house condition" with minor damage, and some bronzes have been replaced, but of good quality.
