Emile Gallé, Rare Art Nouveau Gueridon Aux Hirondelles
(1846 - 1904)
Delightful and rare Art Nouveau molded and carved walnut gueridon, resting on a bipod base joined by an openwork spacer and richly carved with foliage.
This pedestal table has a moving form, its top inlaid with Precious Woods decorated with Chestnut Blossoms and Swallows Perched on a Wire.
A rare piece of furniture, created for the 1900 Exhibition, of very fine craftsmanship with chic, elegant lines, signed by the famous cabinetmaker Emile GALLE.
Emile Gallé (Nancy, 1846-1904)
Famous French glassmaker, ceramist and cabinetmaker. He was also the cousin of Ernest Gallé (1836-1900), a wealthy man and owner of the Gallé-Juillet house in Creil. A pioneer of Art Nouveau, Émile Gallé was the founder of the École de Nancy, founded in 1901. The master glassmaker and cabinetmaker is renowned for his mastery of Pâte de verre, his innovative inlays and his decorative repertoire inspired by nature. He was awarded a Gold Medal at the Lyon Universal and International Exhibition in 1872. At the Exposition Universelle des Arts Décoratifs in 1889, he won a Veritable Triumph.
