This large, interesting 18th-century screen is a fine work of carpentry in molded walnut, with a contoured shape and fine carving on both sides. The Louis XV decor features rushes that run around and underline the shape of the frame, stylized shells on the pediment, florets at the bottom of the molding and rocaille clasps on the bottom rails.
The base is particularly aesthetic and successful, with beautiful curves and ribbing finished off with scrolls.
The frame supported by this pedestal serves as a showcase for a sliding frame upholstered in elegant silk, inspired by Louis XV period models.
This screen is a Parisian work, dating from around 1760; the gilding is old but later, showing some wear, mainly on the base, but the silk is in very good condition.
A very similar model from the former Bensimon collection was sold on April 8, 2005, under lot number 369, this screen also had an almost identical silk, photo attached.
