Beautiful wedding kneading trough in solid walnut, carved and molded, decorated with music, flowers and foliage.
This ornamental piece of Provencal furniture, also known as a Pastiera, was originally used to knead bread dough. Later transformed into a piece of furniture, this kneading trough is distinguished by the finesse of its ornamentation.
It is composed of two parts.
The trapezoidal bowl (known as the kneading section) is made up of hopper-shaped boards, and opens onto a lid with 3 tightly-joined, non-composite boards. The lid has a grooved molding around its perimeter, with a movement on the front.
The front features a single, jointless plank, carved with scallops, and decorated with flowers, foliage and musical instruments in the center.
Inside, a large zinc tray protects the kneading trough and allows this small piece of furniture to be used in a variety of ways: as a planter or storage unit.
This upper part rests on a frame composed of 4 turned legs at the top, ending in a snail foot with carved acanthus leaf.
The 4 uprights, slightly hipped, are linked by crosspieces and braces with sinuous moldings. The upper crosspiece is carved with a scalloped edge and features a central basket decorated with flowers. At the bottom, the cut-out crosspiece is decorated with musical instruments (tambourine, maracas and trumpet).
Delicately crafted, this 19th-century kneading trough is distinguished by its refinement. It's perfect for warm, authentic interiors.
