Orientalist furniture stamped Wicht, XIXth Century

At the end of the 19th century, the explosion of globalization, the acceleration of world trade and the vitality of the colonial empires breathed new life into the European decorative arts. If Japanese and Chinese influences were particularly appreciated, so were Middle Eastern influences, especially in England. In London, a few stores, including Liberty, specialize in Moorish furniture and decorative arts or those inspired by this style.
It is, as on our shelf, an imbrication of geometric patterns, silky wood species finely openwork, like lace. The use of mother-of-pearl brings out the main motifs of the furniture and gives it the unique and fascinating connotation of Middle Eastern furniture.

Our Orientalist furniture is stamped Wicht and features two shelves and a brace that can be used as a support. Openwork uprights and friezes with oriental motifs protect the back of the furniture decorated with stars enriched with mother of pearl or marquetry. The whole, elegant and unique, is in perfect condition.
