late 19th century
The sculptor Victor Segoffin, Grand Prix de Rome, was part of the “gang of Toulouse” who, at the end of the 19th century, achieved artistic and social recognition in Paris. From 1897 to 1902, he was a resident at the Villa Medici. In Italy, he increased his knowledge of Florentines of the Quattrocento, but also of Michelangelo and Bernini who reinforced a baroque leaning.
