Elegant mahogany and mahogany veneer barbière with brass moldings and fluting, standing on four tapered legs with casters and opening with three drawers on the front, topped by a Turquin blue marble-topped niche framed by fluted columns. The Turquin blue marble top slides out to reveal a mercury mirror base. A slim drawer on the right for storing razors. The cabinet, designed to be placed in the center of a room, is veneered on all sides. Louis XVI Directoire period, circa 1790-1800.
The barbière is a piece of toilet furniture designed to hold the porcelain toilet brush and bowl for the standing man, then store them in the niche. A fine collector's item to complete a late 18th-century bedroom, our table is a fine model of its kind, with a luxurious turquoise-blue marble.
Very good condition, hand-polished and repolished by our cabinetmaker. A few old cracks at the bottom of the niche, not very significant.
