This atypically beautiful and elegant large piece of furniture was made in Flanders from oak mesh. This combination piece is a finely molded and beautifully crafted commissioned piece, made in the second half of the 18th century, combining a sideboard, a secretary and a display cabinet.
Built by a carpenter on the principle of a buffet scriban bibliothèque, the lower part of this piece features two rows of small drawers on either side of the two doors. Careful attention has been paid to the drawers, with 4 different carved motifs adorning the fronts. The two doors in the middle of the cabinet are framed by a projecting molding, their upper crosspieces symmetrically curved with small carved scrolls.
The middle section, with a broken parqueted wood top, opens with a leaf in the middle, and two pulls just below serve to hold it in place when opened. With the flap open and resting on the pulls, the carmine-colored secretary section is revealed, with felt for the writing desk, the back is fitted with 4 small drawers and two drawers on the sides, and the drawer fronts are worked in the same spirit as the 8 drawers in the sideboard section.
The glazed upper section, with its wide, arched cornice, canted sides and fine wood-cutting and molding, is a highly refined piece of furniture that can be used as a bookcase or money chest, or as a display or collector's piece to showcase precious objects.
Furniture in good condition, cleaned by our cabinetmaker, the oak mesh offers a beautiful color, all the glass is period adding extra interest.
