Rare embossed copper tabernacle adorned with colored glass cabochons, with two fluted columns in front, depicting Saint Germain* (SCS Germanus) as well as battle scenes (or crusades), kneeling soldiers, and two figures (most likely kings) on the sides, Orthodox or Byzantine inspiration, 19th century.
The tabernacle is in good condition and of superb quality.
The Saint Germain depicted can be both Saint Germain d'Auxerre, who was first a governor in Gaul before becoming a bishop in the period of the wars against the barbarians (Visigoths), and died in 448 in Ravenna in Byzantine Italy. It could also be Saint Germain I of Constantinople, Patriarch of Constantinople (715-730), Saint of the Byzantine Church.
