Bonheur du Jour, Napoleon III period, with various wood marquetry on a background of Rio rosewood veneer.
This Little Lady's Furniture, although in one piece, is made up by definition of two elements: a Bureau Table, topped with Steps.
The upper part offers in its center a small drawer with a concave facade, on which sits a Mirror, itself crowned with a Bronze Ribbon in the spirit of Louis XVI. Its bevelled window is surrounded by a chiseled brass rod. On either side, two small display cases lined with Amaranth-colored velvet and glass shelves complete this Bonheur du Jour. Their tops are embellished with openwork brass galleries. The doors, with ornaments similar to those of the Mirror, have working locks and their respective keys. We will appreciate the marquetry of flowers and foliage, in wood and various colors, present on both sides of each of these Showcases.
The lower part, with a rounded body in both directions, forms a Small Secretary. Its scalloped waistband, its rounded sides and the inclined flap through which it opens display numerous decorations reminiscent of those described above. Once unlocked, this writing space reveals a niche below which align three small drawers with pull buttons. There is also a compartment made accessible by a sliding top. The work area offered by the flap thus unfolded is covered with an original green felt, bordered by a Black and Gold frieze.
Note the discreet but nevertheless omnipresence of lemon tree fillets, forming frames around inlays, drawer fronts, glass doors ...
The whole rests on four high legs with a pronounced curve, adorned with Bronze Chutes at the front and finished with four cut-out clogs.
This gracious Bonheur du Jour can be assigned various functions depending on the place chosen for it: small office in a living room, chest of drawers or dressing table in a bedroom, exhibition furniture in a common room ...
Whatever its destination, it will charm women with the finesse and elegance of its design, while men can only approve of its refinement.
