Small middle desk in Loupe d'Amboine from the Paris cabinetmaker Speich Frères, active between 1900 and 1940. This unique piece of furniture, a testament to the skills of master cabinetmakers during the Arts Décoratifs period, has contemporary, avant-garde lines for its time. The top of the desk is covered in glass with a taupe-colored tapestry that follows the concave front of the piece. Two drawers in the waistband are fitted with Art Deco-style white pull handles. The base is made of thick panels covered with open-book burr leaves. They form wide molded feet at the top. Two stained wood bases, carved with waves, support the whole. This desk bears the nameplate: "SPEICH FRÈRES 230 Fg. St Antoine PARIS" as proof of attribution.
