Small English middle desk, called Davenport, in solid Walnut and Walnut veneer.
It is composed of a raised desk with a sloping flap with a Corbin's beak molding around the edge. The latter is covered with authentic green leather edged with gold Vignettes on a hard background. It uncovers a Lemon tree case, itself furnished with two small drawers.
The upper part of this writing case offers a removable storage compartment of 11 cm deep, opening from the top and locking. It is decorated with a wooden gallery and its sides are curved.
True to its original definition, the lower part of this Davenport consists of four drawers accessible from the right side. Each of them has two round pull knobs, a working period lock, and its current key.
To create symmetry and a pleasing visual, the left side offers an identical front, but the drawers are fictitious.
At the front, two elongated legs, generously sculpted, allow both to support the desk and to lighten the silhouette of the furniture.
The whole unit rests on four casters for perfect mobility of this already light and very adaptable Petit Bureau.
The back of the desk is designed to be visible, which makes this small-sized secretary a potential middle piece of furniture. We will also appreciate the nice patterns formed by the decorative and quality Walnut burl veneer that this Small Desk benefits from.
Historical note, the term Davenport comes from the Royal Navy Captain of the same name, who, at the end of the 18th century, commissioned a particular Writing Table, with dimensions small enough to fit into the limited volume of his cabin. Interesting proportions also adapted to this XXIst century, where living areas are often reduced and in which this Small Office will allow to establish a functional and space-saving work space.
