From a 19th-century Paris workshop, this rare Louis XVI desk in solid mahogany and mahogany veneer features a cylinder dressed with brass doucine rods. The cylinder is distinguished by its two colors of mahogany. It features two side handles and a working lock with pearl key. Inside, a sliding shelf is trimmed in green leather with gold vignette. There are three small drawers with brass knobs and three niches. The desk also features a wide drawer in the waistband and wide brass-encrusted fluting on the uprights. It stands on four sheathed feet with brass fluting, a collar at the top and a ball-shoe at the bottom.
The upper part of this desk is composed of a display case opening onto three doors embellished with interior brass moldings surrounding beveled glass panes. All doors are fitted with working keys and locks. The sides of the cabinet are also glazed. On the top, a large antique northern marble is surrounded by an openwork gallery underlined by drapery. Below, three small drawers with brass knobs and moldings complete this elegant and refined piece of furniture.
