Magnificent desk in Amaranth and Maple flecked, benefiting from a flap in the form of doucine, with surrounding and angles in amaranth and the middle in Maple flecked. When opened, it engages a mechanism that slides the writing part forward. This flap is equipped with a lock accompanied by its brass key in working order. Once locked, a mechanism condemns the two drawers in the upper part of this desk.
Once the flap is opened we discover an interior part in maple speckled. The writing surface is lined with green leather and decorated with a golden vignette. Above, we discover three identical drawers also in maple speckled and draw knobs in amaranth.
This exceptional desk has a top made in the same spirit as the flap and rests on four legs in solid birdseye maple decorated with a finely carved acanthus leaf in the upper part. This decoration is embellished in the center with a flat part in amaranth, which is also found on the front of the foot. On each side, we note the presence of a groove made in the wood.
This Louis XV style desk has a drawer in the belt made of maple flecked surrounded by amaranth and beautiful moldings.
The inside of the drawers, sides and back, are made of solid mahogany.
The sides are made of three parts of the same composition. The back is perfectly finished in the same wood species making it a superb middle desk.
Comment of the antique dealer :
This Napoleon III period desk is very rare by the quality of its precious woods and its exceptional conception certainly realized by a great Parisian cabinetmaker in spite of its absence of signature.
